Solar power energy is the conversion of sun rays into energy. This energy can be converted into electricity or it can be converted into heat. Investments in the field of solar energy have risen in recent times. There are two ways of tapping solar energy: Using Solar Power plant or by using solar photovoltaic Cells.

Solar photovoltaic devices or solar cells change sunlight directly into electricity. The solar cells are made up of silicon alloys that absorb the photons emitted from sun. The photons hit the silicon atoms transferring its energy and thereby, releasing the electron from its orbit. This leads to the generation of electricity. Solar power plants also generate electricity. It uses a different method in doing so. In solar power plant, a mirror is used to reflect the heat energy from a large area into a small pipe, filled with a fluid. This fluid’s temperature is raised using the solar energy, which is then used to boil water and produce steam. The steam is then used to turn a conventional generator.

Solar energy is not only renewable but is also a clean source of energy. It can be used again and again, without causing any harm to the earth. Solar energy systems like solar panels are highly reliable and make for some of the best solar investments.

The problem with solar photovoltaic cells is that at the present time they cost a small fortune to put on your house. I looked into it just this year and the price was ridiculously high. It would have taken over 25 years to get my money back (which included the Federal and State of Indiana rebates and credits), and the cells have only a 25 year warranty. Phooey!

Solar photovoltaic technology has been around since the turn of the century. It has never been inexpensive enough to justify the cost.
