What if all cars was electric? The car can partially be recharged downhill and when they break. A gasoline car cannot get back the energy it used - therefor are a gasoline engine so inefficient, and a electric car so efficient.

discharge batt 90%
electric motor 90%
result 19 t0 32% to drive the car.
gas engine raw 35% less running the engine transmission etc. to the wheels around 20%. plus lots more range and
fast refuel, in addition have you priced batts?

the OP was talking about tapping into the power the car produced for other use, or i misread.

I was thinking regardless of how the car was powered, it is going down the road either way.  if it was to carry magnets on the bottom and the road became a grid of coils, you could harness the energy already being spent for other purposes (commuting), to in addition send electricity to a municipal grid.
