Would be interesting to see if you can use an uncharged hoop of the same containing material and zoom in to see if you get that last effect anyway - see if its just due to the camera.  Zooming in on the wicker basket with the hoop so severely out of focus might be tripping up the digital focus logic (or whatever mechanism it uses).
