Hi there,
We used to live on a farm and we had a Water Ram pump made by a damn good Neighbour ,
John Harrison ,the guy was a Trojan.

It uses Water Hammer and it used to run day and night all year round just like the guy who made it.
Theres an example VIDEO at ,   lifeboat farm.co.nz  ,  its a different model and make to our one but its all good and if you saw one in person you'd  see Viktor Schauberger technology and further development possibilities for other inventions.

This is very basic technology that seems to be over looked because most people have never heard of such a thing , theres alot of innovation out in the country side in farm sheds by a minority who still use the old ways.

The Video is worth watching just to get the idea... it all happens for free!!.

Hi,
Good post.

Here's the proper link http://lifeboat.co.nz/water-ram-pump/
More on RamPumps : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hydraulic_ram

Its a good device, but not OU, it harvests the KE of water itself to run. Clever idea indeed.
I have more respect for the fellow with a single idea who gets there than for the fellow with a thousand ideas who does nothing - Thomas Alva Edison

John Worrell Keely's Hydro Vacuuo Engine may relate. I have heard of a device
and a book by Dale Pond, a Keely expert. I will investigate.

Thanks Omega , my memories like a steel trap , ...rusty as hell though.     What pump ??

If anyones keen , google-  'water ram'  or  'hydraulic ram'  and theres a good amount of imfo and construction details although making PVC versions sound dodgy to me.
The one we had used a pipe for the intake ,maybe 3 inch diameter and it used to
jump from the hammer shock ,the pipe was maybe 20 metres long .
Our one was different ,it had no tank ,just valves and a body, nothing was bolted down, it was free and easy and used to jump for joy and was tough as nuts.
Im guessing if it was bolted down it would suffer more shock treatment.
It never broke and never had replaced parts ,only ever needed up stream filter cleared during hard weather .  I guess the quality of the water makes a difference too.
The output pipe was garden hose size ,black poly whatsit pipe which is hard walled so all the internal forces have nowhere to go but up the pipe.
So if anyone decides to go with PVC just know that theres a good chance the water hammer will
destroy the weakest link. All the old pumps are made from steel or brass .
Also cavitation will eat metal pipes on the intake side.
I remember reading an article in popular mechanics maybe 1930s or 40s and Im sure it was a no waste version. Hard to find those books now but if you can find it ,your in the right direction.
