First of all, what the hell are you a professor of?  It is certainly not logic or reasoning.  No one can disprove the existence of god, because as god is defined by the faithful (i.e. gullible), it is not possible to detect him using any of our senses.

So what?  You cannot disprove that the Islamic religion is wrong, or the Hindu, or the ancient Greek and Roman, or the Native American, or the Wicca, or the Norse, the ancient Egyptian or any of the numerous pagan faiths.  Maybe we should start worshiping Apollo or Zeus or Thor again?  What about the Flying Spaghetti Monster - disprove him please.  He touched me with his noodly appendage and now I am forever blessed, Ramen.

This is a question I've always had about the nature of good and evil and how religion effects it.

Here are the the things to be considered to show why this is a quandary for me.

1.) The bible is the word of God and the truth.

2.) It says God Is aware of "every sparrow that falls and every hair on your head" and knows all that has been and will be.

3.) I says Satan (Lucifer) was once the most favored angel of God, who made all the angels. He was cast "down" by God because of his pride and arrogance.

4.) The bible tells us that God is good and we are all the children of God (although wiping the face of the earth of all humanity except the family of Noah tests that quality a bit).

5.) It also tells us that God cast down the most favored of his angels (although there are arguments that the casting out of Lucifer [Isaiah 14:12] was referring to the deposition of a Phoenician King) for his pride and thus that angel became the Lord of evil.

6.) It also says (in the case of Job) that God ALLOWED Satan (inferring control of Satan) to ply tortures and tribulations (killing his family and livestock, destroying his home, infecting him with disease) to the faithful (Job) to "test" his devotion to God because he (Satan) was jealous of Gods devotion and gifts to Job.  

So.........................finally the question:

If you (God) creates a tool (Satan) to work something (evil) and it's known that  it will turn out that way even before you start, is it the tools (Satan) fault, or the fault of the creator and wielder of that tool (God)?

This a duality of what the bible and religion tell us about this confuses me.

If God created everything and is all knowing, God created both good and evil and every perpetrator of either and knows everything they'll do before they are created to do it?
Therefore, "What the Lord giveth, the Lord taketh away?" (said by Job in fact).

long ago, mankind was very technologically advanced.

each nation chose a main leader. and called their main leader a "god".

but the prestige, wealth, and loyalty that they had, was impressive.

I think the most pertinent questions one should ask regarding such a quandary, are not, "why, oh why did Yahweh let satan fall?"   "Why does He allow evil to reign for a time, as He promised?"

Opening a NEW F*&KIN THREAD has become as common as laying a brownie burger. People see a f(*kin youtube and open a thread. People read about Annie Fanny getting layed and open a new thread. People discover Jesus and open a new thread. People wonder if chocolate icing is better then vanilla icing on a sesame bun and open a new thread.

Used to be that guys would open a thread when they had prepared a document on OU and wanted to initiate serious discussions with their counterparts. Not anymore. Just total bullshit.

Honor your father and mother.  OK, most of the time.  What if your mother beats you for no reason and your father sexually molests you?  Should you still honor them?

You shall not make yourself an idol.  What is so bad about that?  Christians do it all the time, with the cross and statues of Jesus and Mary and various saints.  Do you even follow that one?

I make comment on those threads only when I feel I have something relevant to offer.

And the only threads I miss are the ones missed if I don't check back to the previous group of threads clearly marked as 'read' by their red color.

Personally, I don't concur with the 'cluttered board theory'...and feel it is rooted on ones reluctance to scroll down.

It is simply a matter of choosing a thread of interest.

To limit expression is to limit the chance of an idea sparking an advancement.

As to your Wimshurst project. You would benefit greatly if you were to study V.E. Johnson's 1922 tome called: "Modern High Speed Influence Machines" It is available as re-print now. You can find it on the net. I have an original copy that cost an arm and a leg.

Johnson's book is considered THE textbook on the subject. There you will find that the Wimshurst machine, though the most popular amongst influence machines, is also the most inefficient. There are much better designs around. The book is really worthy of study.

It also describes electrostatic motors.

now humans have powerful guns.
with which to shoot them on sight, out of fear.


and we have living environments, which are polluted like mad.
with low frequency electromagnetic pollution,
harmful chemicals in our foods and air,
highly disrupting noises,
and thoroughly unpleasant individuals, who even WE don't like to be around.


and we have communication networks, with which to make an embarassing,
disruptive,
unconstructive spectacle,
of anything they do while visiting.


and don't forget the passive aggressive abuse,
that the masses would casually lavish upon them.

just as they lavish it upon anyone who is "different" from them.
or just because they feel like tearing into someone else.



so who can blame them, for wanting to stay away from us !

I love free speech.

     Like I said before these beings are way too timid for us animals.  They pop in every once in a while for a visit at the zoo day and off they go.  No faith at all in the goodness of the common man.  If you are in communication with these advanced civilizations let em know all a manannimal really wants is to be able to pay all the bills when they come in,  a job providing a sense of self worth producing income to pay all the bills when they comein,  and be able to sit by a warm fire with his family and know that tomorrow will be a better day than today and today was wonderful.   No one wants to do this trip alone.  No one wants to feel there is no purpose to their lives.  No one wants to have to go to work just so they can go to work tomorrow.  I do appreciate the crop circle efforts.  If they really need to communicate with the common man hijack the frigging air waves and stop messing around with shit only rich people in airplanes can make out.  Or brainwashed military leaders. Why would you create a creature with free will if you knew their every movement and thought throughout their life? What choices they would make and why.

That seems a little bit like a rigged game only played for the enjoyment of the game maker according to that specific religious text (bible).

I believe in "God".

I believe in Budda.

I believe in Mohammad.

I believe in Great Father.

I believe in any teaching that tells that doing good is a better past time than doing "evil".

But I don't believe that the bible is the only true religious text, or that it is the best document to convince  me in the beneficence of the christian god because if it is READ and it's words are not blindly followed because of preached interpretation, it is very contradictory as to what it's principles do, while telling us to something different.

I do believe that any good work a human chooses to undertake for the betterment of his fellow man is a good thing and that if a certain name wasn't invoked during such a work that it <edit>DOESN'T</edit> make it worthless.

Except that history books can be and are changed when new evidence comes to light.  Ever try to change the bible?  And while there is some evidence that supports some of the events that occurred in the bible, it is overall thin.

Also, I think it is an insult to humanity to equate not believing in God with living an immoral life, as you do with the Sodom and Gomorrah example.  Want to know what an atheist society is like?  Well, you can look at the former Soviet Union as an example, where religion was actively suppressed for 70 years and the average person did not believe in god, or if he or she did believe, the belief was limited to Deism, meaning the belief that maybe a supreme being created the universe, but day-to-day events happened without supervision or active direction from a divine being. 

I know the regime there was totalitarian, but if you examine the everyday life of the average Soviet and how they interacted with their friends and neighbors, you will see that most people tended to behave themselves and society functioned like most societies do.  There was no mass fornication (is that even wrong?), theft, murder, or whatever other crimes and moral failing you may imagine a Godless society would have.  Certainly, crime existed, but it was not out of line with less secular societies.

I do not think that somebody hates God - nobody can . They just hate their false image about God. That almighty being who created the Universe is also involved in the very being of the so called God haters, so how can God hate himself?

     I guess the best plan is to give what you wish to receive.  The bible is a written record of a particular grouping of humans.  In it we see theology advanced and an incredible mind journey from basically animal awareness to one of enlightenment.
Awareness of ones own being is not just a given.  Nature does throw us some curves along the way though.   Quite difficult to keep your mind in the right zone in the midst of chaos.
