Free Energy will change the World - Free Energy will stop Climate Change - Free Energy will give us hope
and we will not surrender until free energy will be enabled all over the world, to power planes, cars, ships and trains.
Free energy will help the poor to become independent of needing expensive fuels.
So all in all Free energy will bring far more peace to the world than any other invention has already brought to the world.

...you should try it out triffid, let us know if it works. all the sand around here is under a couple feet of snow.
San Fransisco is covered to a depth of more than 100 feet (near the Bay) by beach sand.  A billion tons, at least.  Starting a fire in privacy would be a problem with all the smoke, however.  Outdoor fires, except in park broiler hearths with charcoal, is widely frowned upon.  Air quality regulations, you know.  The cops would be all over violators.

You have a good point about the beach iron filings, I agree.

I'm merely a theoretical electronics engineer/technician for now, since I have no extra money for experimentation, but I was a professional electronics/computer technician in the past.
As a result, I have a lot of ideas, but no hard test results to back them up---for now.  That could change if I get a job locally in the Bay Area of California.

The quick-and-dirty answer:

great, except neither you nor triffid reference iron III oxide, you both referenced "iron oxide"... furthermore, i'm not even sure why it was brought up without being tested first. triffid does not even know if it will work like he thinks it will. running about gathering sand that may or may not help you start a fire may not be much help to someone trying to survive a disaster.

Yes I am guilty of making an assumption without testing the bit about iron particles you can collect from any street or road with a magnet.Black sand would be an interesting experiment but I did not mention it first.I have played with black sand a lot however in my gold panning days(early 80's).I did use magnets to separate the magnetic black sand from nonmagnetic black sand.A friend of mine used the magnetic black sand with epoxy to form an iron core.I got to see what he had done.I filed it away in my mind for future reference.triffid

triffid

When making assumptions it makes an a** out of both you and me.
I heard that at work a lot.triffid
