I'm pretty confused as to why so many obviously intelligent people should be arguing about this subject. I really think that in general we have all been watching far too many films. The towers collapsing Hollywood style certainly did convince the majority of the tube watching world.

I guess this kind of spectacular event is what most of us would clearly identify with as we have seen similarly spectacular events every day on tv. In fact the bigger the explosion the better, especially as most poeple would have watched 911 unfolding on the screen instead of in real life.

An explosion is what was aimed for and executed. So in some ways the general public got what they would accept as horrifying as it was. The twin towers literally exploded shooting out steel beams and huge volumes of dust.

Progressive collapse did not happen here, unless we include explosives assisted progressive collapse.

If the Bush administration did see it coming, explain why was Bush doing this when told of the event?  Given advance warning, surely he could have struck a more heroic pose, no?
