Howdy Folks...
I was wondering if anyone has used the disposable kodak camera to get out the battery unit yet to power a CFL ?
and if so , is there a schematic for it to re-wire ?
thanx....

Don't waste your time with cfl's...try led bulbs designed to fit Edison based fixtures.  Lights of America bulbs are about $8 (US) for 2 and they put out excellent light without the mercury.

I would love to know if anyone has ever gotten you to the point where you can get same brilliance from a Kodak as a Fuji circuit?

I pulled the flash off the board, and just soldered right onto the Electrolytic Cap's leads to a CF lamp and walla I get a burst of Brilliance equal to the Fuji then it turns off ggrrr.

I yanked the cap out and I get nada nut'n zip. I put my hand on it I get half assed light I put a wire around the lap spiral and connect to the trigger coil and I get mediocre light. Not worth the calories.

What is annoying is the idea that with the cap I get a pulse (once) of real high output, then zip.

Any clues here? I can't ask my engineer buddy as he is up to his nostrils on a project quickly sliding down the event horizon of a black hole, so I come here first.

And do you need to remove the ballast of a diode light like you do to a CF  e before making it function?

And my wife and kid were suitably impressed with my jury rigged set up, for summer camping or emergencies these babies are better then candles. With a duel battery source they would be wonderful. Using c cells would make them last a very long time.  For duel system have  nicads and solar charger to keep 1 or two charged, plus a standard alky batt as back up for cloudy days/no charge situations.

For winter outdoor cold use you probably need a diode light. Outdoor/cold service Florescent set ups the ballast and lamps are diff, they must heat up the gas, and I believe both anode and cathode  of the lamps  are doped differently and the gas mix is a little different, I think they may have a circuit that also heats the electrodes or the gas as well.  Now every chance I get I will drop in at a big box pharmacy and beg for fuji's/no names (no names are never kodak, I opened a lot a few years back, I didn't have any help and tossed all 10 out, then I found this site, grrrr)

thanks

Chris:

Sorry for the late response.  On the lights of America diode bulbs...i tried both removing the internals and using as is and saw no real difference...so...easier to leave alone.  I don't know if this is the same for all of them but with the LOA bulbs I used in 3 of my videos....it is.

I have never got a Kodak board to word....which is a shame because electronics goldmine has a bunch of them for like 80 cents each brand new.  I also never got a Fuji AAA board to work well.  To me...the old Fuji AA board is the best....but...maybe not even being made any more?

A really smart guy on here known as Wilbyinebriated has gotten a kodak to work well.  His posts are in the original JT tiopic or...if he is still around, you could try to pm him.

Best of luck and let me know how you make out.
