Dear All.

There has been some heat generated in the choke area of my device. See attached photo below. The top coil former has shrunk and my neatly made coil has died!! It should look like the one in the middle!

The bottom coil is my latest, 255 turns of 0.9 mm wire. And you will note I have wound it on a cardboard former. The 10 turn coil is for the scope and I have attached a photo of the drive frequency, CH1 at 11.4 Khz.  Ch 2 showing 78.1 Khz at plus 300v P/P (X10 probe setting). This would calculate a voltage of 7.65 KV P/P!!

This is the first time I have seen such a high frequency resonance on the choke. Before with the 600 turn choke I was developing 12 KV but with only a 1:3 resonance. Now lower voltage but a 1:6.85 resonance frequency.

Well testing will continue, the next stage will be to "up the ante" and drive at mains voltage!! Using a home made inverter to be clear of any possible "Grid based anomalies".

You might want to try some PVC pipe (drainage) as a former, a bit more stout and should not deform as readily as the thinner plastic former you used.

Many thanks for the tip. That thin plastic tube was the only thing I had at 2" (50mm) and I have got to admit I was not expecting to generate so much heat!! A clue perhaps??
Who knows with this exotic stuff
