Seeing that I am sick with the Flu, and have a 103 F temp, I can assume I won't get flogged for this like I always have in the past.  I may sound a little nasty, but forgive me as my thought processes are not quite up to the social graces right now.

Paul and Bob have good and factual thoughts.  I just wanted to reiterate what I have been told is a "Cop-Out" by certain other individuals.  This is a statement of "Fact" right from the books, so why EE's can't accept reality just shows their ignorance.  I assume that all who do basic electrical work are familiar with "Ohms Law".  PLEASE note that to even discuss this I am forced to use words with "Electron" in them.  That is part of the problem.  Here's the reality and you may do with this as you will.  Ohm's Law states E=I*R, Where R is resistance in ohms, I is Current in Amps, and E is "Electro Motive Force".  I hope all notice that the R and I are definable in physical terms, where E is NOT.  (To you EE's - Electron Charge IS NOT EMF!  Don't try to make us forget that fact!)

I am saying this for around the 10th time, but it never sinks in, but as my testing is not the best I offer no proof of operating concept, other than to refer anyone who questions this to a standard physics book.  It's actually all in there.  So, as a stupid example, think of a basic tesla tower, big cap on top with very high resistance.  Feed that with an impulse from a proper transformer through an "Extra" coil as it has been reffered to, and what will happen?  I'm not about to get into detail, but as soon as you can accept EMF can exist without excess electrons being present, and that this same EMF can motivate electrons to move...  You see, a small current flowing into such a setup WILL amplify the voltage, and for some reason that I cannot explain, the current can build up greatly as well, as long as no arcs come from the top to waste the energy.

Loner, nice to talk with you again. I'll be blunt, anyone that has you on iggy is a complete ditz. Having just recently gone through a 2 week ordeal with the flu myself, I really feel for you. I hope you get well quickly.


Concerning whether anyone will listen; you can lead a horse to water, but nothing will force it to drink. However to say nothing is to ensure that nothing will change, and the only guaranteed means to fail is to do nothing. Voltage, or EMF is indeed one of the explained away but 'undefined' terms, of which there are many. What you say should be apparent the first time someone sees a high emf on their scope with no current, as I am pretty sure we all have.


It should be an AHA moment, but it is usually explained away or ignored as with most anything which is truly interesting.

The size of capacitor (for a start with say 12V pre-charged caps) could be any value from 470uF to 2200uF and at least 250V DC rating may be needed for a 470uF and probably 160V DC voltage rating may be needed for a 2200uF for your mini circuit.  Wire gauge could be 0.5 - 0.6mm enameled copper wire (peak charge or discharge currents can be in the some Amper range) so the bridge rectifier should be at least for 3-4 Amper and at least 250V AC voltage.  First just use your hand to substitute the switches so that you can see how the voltage level change across the precharged capacitor C1 when you first close S1 switch, just momentarily.  At first do not use a big load across the output i.e. 6V/ 1-2W or a 12V/ 1W small bulbs would be good as a start: in case you overload the output the capacitors may not be able to get recharged from the coils kick-back spikes at switch-offs and the circuit rings down just because the charge gets used up from the caps.  There must be an optimal rate of discharge in a given setup like this,  considering first of all the load, the coils inductances and the capacitor values and this could be explored first by hand switching THEN by substituting the hand switch with an electronic switch with variable frequency AND duty cycle. Your relay approach is also good of course, maybe you wish to control the relay with a 555 timer say from 5Hz and up.

yes I agree the two primaries should be 'kicking' out of phase, this means that when S1 is closed then S2 should be open AND there is one more notice here: either the winding sense for the primaries should be opposite with each other or the polarity of one of the caps should be connected to a primary in opposite sense with respect to the other.  This way the output waveform can have both positive and negative halfwaves 'by default'  and if the coils include ferromagnetic cores then the magnetic bias from the one-way capacitors discharge current can be symmetrical on the core B-H curve (no remanence bias may remain). 

One more notice: the output coil can be tuned to the switching frequencies by a (non electrolytic) capacitor of course, this way you get a more-sinusoid output voltage waveform.
