AT LAST! Somebody else knows of Nikolayev. But it's really a shame that you include his great ideas along with hoaxes like that last video. (I don't mean the HoJo track, that's real enough, I mean the guy with the magnet motor "powering" the usual fan and light.)

Nikolayev was Stefan Marinov's mentor; I don't speak much Russian any more but I once had a hard copy of his book and the diagrams were clear and very helpful. His little magnet train example was the inspiration for what I call the Nikolayev or non-contact trailer hitch. I also used his ideas, along with Marinov's, to build a pulse motor version of the Siberian Koliu, and I also constructed and tested a sophisticated version of the original Siberian Koliu motor which Jeffrey Kooistra called the "Warlock's Wheel" when he tested it for Gene Mallove's (RIP) Infinite Energy magazine. This testbed was the most amazing electromechanical device I have ever tested or even seen. As you know it consists of a ring "stator" which is also free to rotate and a central armature made of opposite facing vertical cylinder magnets. When the ring stator is energised by brushes along the outside perimeter, the magnet armature goes one way and the stator ring goes the other way, until a "lock" position of the armature is reached at 90 degrees to the brushes, and the ring stator coasts freely from that point. Not too strange....yet. When the brushes are arranged to contact the ring stator from the _inside_ edge of the ring......... hold onto your hat, Isaac Newton, because __both the ring and the armature rotate in the SAME direction_. Again, the armature locks at 90 degrees to the brushes for as long as current is applied and the ring coasts freely.
I have been able to incorporate this phenomenon into a pulse motor with a special coil winding substituting for the ring stator. Since this is fixed to the frame of the motor, the Warlock's Wheel effect has a different consequence: there appears to be no "back reaction" from the acceleration of the rotor to the stator assembly.
