Yes, but implemented with a Katcher Brovina circuit. Brovina had realized the importance of Tesla's circuits and he designed a block oscillator according to Tesla's schemas. He even incorporated Tesla's method for limiting the input current. I speak about the input choke/transformer at Brovina's original circuit. I believe that a well balanced and optimized circuit is the half job.
Few photos of my experimental coils and some switches that I have built for experimentation with other projects. (just for sharing few of my toys  )

3: My handy three independent switch board. 2KV break down voltage, gate isolation, 10Kz-1Mhz, If mosfets are combined in series then total 6KV, driven from FG or other external means.

It seems you have a great room to experiment.

Building 2 small (600 turns) tesla coils myself for replicating TK's EEEE.
I drive one with Steve ward his micro SSTC circuit, see picture.
But it will need a stronger HalfBridge driver which i still need to build.
