The only thing I can think of is, the large blue Alternator does not contain a rotor and its cavity is filled with Li-on batteries and a 2kw inverter (minimum) to powers the prime mover (induction motor)

Sounds like a very complicated and expensive trick if that's what he really did :-\

Any other ideas?

I like the design of external flywheel.   Its weight is not acting either on motor or the generator.  Flywheel is not slowing down.
