Questions about making coils

I was wondering   if anyone here  could    help me fill in a few  blanks .

I  have looking into  different  kinds of  motors  off and on for  quite a few years.

I    have a few questions about winding  coils.    I remember a few details  but not enough to realy help.

I  remember  a name,   Scaler winding .      If I remember  right    it is wound    all in one  direction .
When   you come to the  end  of the coil, rather than going  winding  back in the  other direction  you   make  a sharp bend in the wire and run  back  along  the  core to the end you  started from .
In other  words   every layer  is   from  left to right  , rather than  alternating   left to right  with right to left.

How  much different  would  this kind of coil be?
Would it be worth the extra effort  when building  a motor?

My  second  question is  about   something I read  a few years  ago.
It was about a different  kind of coil.
Someone  claimed  that they  could double  the power   of  a coil   by  winding it  differently
All I remember for sure is that   it looked  similar  to  what would be called  feeding a transformer  through the  center tap .
If I remember the  claim    right it was  same # of  turns  same  power input  ............but twice the flux when fed from the center
Does anyone  remember anything about this .........or have a URL that might be related?

Thanks
