    Sorry about not getting the patent up yet.  I brought the papers to my office to scan them in and they are lost in my life of confused tempic energy field distribution. 
     I'd say ss devices converge the intelligence of two energy currents.  They radiate energy out of the device to match the energy of the emitter and collector to that of the gate.  The gate energy current is stronger than the energy current to be amplified, so off goes radiant energy until the strength of the emitter collecter ec= the cold energy supplied to the gate.  Now since we don't have anything to collect the re we call it the voltage drop of the device and channel it back into the field through heat sinks and fans.

   Tubes are a different deal.  We elicit cold energy from hot metal masses.  Electrodes in a spark gap come to mind. As does thermocouples for gas ignition prooving circuits.  Modern prooving circuits stick an electrode in the flame and amplify the energy circuit through ss devices to see if the metal is hot or not.
Piezo electrics match the energy flow by dumping the excess as mechanical vibrations.

  Gettin her done Grumpy.   You have inspired me to go to the dump and pickup a couple of crt sets or computer monitors and start fooling around with the tesla coils in them.  The high voltage between the flyback and crt can suck up energy from the cosmos like it is something new. And still give you a picture.  (as well as xrays and all sorts of re so don't do this at home kids)   Last time I got a flurescent tube near the flyback the juice popped into the horizontal output transistor and away that set went.  I need to replicate my own experiment to verify that coronal discharge from my electrodes were cooling down the field between them and ground at an astonishing rate. (actually could feel cold wind in the area of the electrodes)    The high voltage condenses the energy flying around.  This would go on in Tesla's spark gaps at high frequency where he would kick it into a capacitor coil.  Little bit real fast discharged as a lot real slow.

I have seen similar (a little sweeter) from a Newman motor.

I have tested output of my coil. It converts surprisingly 100hz from cheap PSU 12V/300mA into 4.50 -5 khz at output when it's able to light neon. However lighting neon is better done with second PSU 12V/1A, with lower rated to light neon I must use most of times an insulated plate to add capacitance to one of the neon terminal.
