The shorted coil acts as a catcher's mit, it keeps the pulses from leaving the system.

I think your pulling on the secondary's, I havent looked at it from this perspective.

Well the secondary can be configured a few ways having 4 separate insulated wires in the white insulation. At first I will try a few things with all 4 as 1 and then try shorting some as in your diagram.  ;]
