In the meantime I am also looking into the Akula 30 W device that was recently posted by x_name41. As dear Hoppy has not yet gotten back with an "X" wire or two !!  This might just be a winner??

I felt a bit sick trying to focus whilst his camera was swaying around. That's always a good technique to fend off 'X' wire detection. Coupled with the crappy video quality, this guy might get away with it and be responsible for adding yet another score or two pages of posts to this thread.

I reckon the dry soldered joints on the wires to the coils on that one are not helping to take it OU

Thank you for taking time to answer my questions.

I guessed that the diode must be a 1N4148 and that the other component at the gate of the mosfet
must be some protection diode, so your answer confirms that.

Now the main issue, if we do not ground that point (as I asked for in my posted drawing) then we
will lift the ground reference for the R11 (with the two resistors). The ground lift will be 12 Volt - LED
forward voltage. So now the internal error amplifier + input (pin 16) will NOT be the same as in Akyla0083
designed circuit.

Have you built and tested this modified circuit? What kind of LED did you use?

I test not exatly, like in this circuit. I not use any LED, on load I use 55 W lamp 12 volts and 5 W 12 volts. They light wery bright. Input with 55 W is about 4-5 amps and 12-11 volts. Frenquency about 200 kiloherc, is too big, because I not exatly wound transformer like in instruction and turn ratio is diferen. so maybe because that I not get sefrunning, or maybe need on load put LED, but not hologen bulb. And capasitors not that use. Not 2000 mikrofard use, but 470 mikrofards, I wery not good make, but fast.
