I think gasifiers are great!In college we had an experiment called the destructive distillation of wood.We created charcoal by not completely burning the wood but by heating it up to drive off combustable vapors such as alcohols and acetone and carbon monoxide.It always had a strong odor.I saw a tv show on alternate fuels.Someone had built a large gasifier for their van and they were using food as fuel.triffid

This is a long thread and is quite old now but is essential reading for understanding this subject. I sometimes forget that I wrote the material guiding you to this information and in my mind I know where the link is, however, there is so much information to absorb it may not always be obvious what I am talking about so here is the direct link.

There are many skilled electronics people on this forum that would be able to implement improvements, such as Joule Thief circuits to maximise the potential of this technology, and so great progress can be made as the LED technology itself develops and becomes more affordable at greater lumen outputs and suitable nm frequencies. LED's are the technology of the future where growboxes are concerned as they have many advantages, however my focus has been on providing you effective solutions at minimum cost right here today, which is why I recommend HPS systems currently.

Digital Ballasts are now widely available as well for powering the grow lamps directly from the AC output of your generator.

Last night on fox news they said 45.8 million people applied for food stamps in May 2011 due to layoffs.
If the USA has 200 million people then 45.8m/200m=22.9%.So 22.9 unemployment??? triffid

Make sure you have a good stream of gas going and a torch to light it. If the wood is damp, it makes it much harder. It took about 8 minutes before I had a a steady enough stream to hold a flame. Also try to make some type of burner so the gas can mix with air. I piped mine through a small tin can. The can had holes in the bottom. That helped the flame.
