I have run across something called a self feeding fire.You arrange the sticks in such a way that it feeds itself as the night wears on.So It can go for hours feeding itself while you stay in bed.I found it again    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LpjnlkfCKOE&feature=fvsr   I'm hoping you can use the concept somehow in your gasifier designs.    triffid

Hi triffid,

The self feeding fire will not work for gasification, the fire needs to be at the bottom for it to work like that.

One thing I was thinking about trying one day was making a small briquette press and making paper pellets to use in the gasifier:

The beauty of this method will be that I can ask the missus to sign up for as much freebie cr@p as possible (the opposite of what I normally tell her) and she will have lots of fun, and the large corporations can pay the postage costs to have my paper (wood) delivered to my door 

I think I will try to have at least 1 sack of mail to myself every day to keep the fuel stocks up, and I also help the postman keep his job by having lots of work to do. It will almost be like having my own postman

I enjoyed the video clip of the guy making his own bricks of wood shaving and saw dust.The size of the sticks in the self feeding fire video is the type of wood I have handy.I guess I could stack the wood in a similar fashion inside a metal pipe .Heat it up with an outside fire.Or if I have sunshine use solar heat.In the lab we used gas flames on test tubes with wooden splints in them.With a rubber stopper with a short glass pipe sticking out of them.But no one at the time explained this was used during world war two as a fuel source.I only found that out much much later.triffid

I found out today that in seven short years(2018) there will be 78 million people on SS whereas today its about 50 million.The youngest baby boomer today is 55.All these people paid into the system too and expect entitlements.So people like lee and me might have 7 years to figure something else out?triffid
