The reason why many places in the world are vulunerable to earthquakes is because we have extracted too much oil and other resources from the ground.

We have created a huge volume of underground voids, which are either filled by air or water. And the underground voids are vulunerable to attacks  by tidal waves, other mechanical noises or the like.

Haiti is the latest event which examplifies this problem. Cuba discovered their oil reserve a few years ago. Since then, Cuba let the westerners ram up their oil exploitation activities. Perhaps, their oil exploitation activities have contributed to the recent unprecedented earthquake.

The indonesia quake last year is another example. Some months ago, I told people the earthquake would recur, but no one believed that.

Unless we stop this oil era, our world will continue to be plagued by earthquakes and other kinds of natural disasters.

there are much larger forces at work than drilling for oil... it's called plate tectonics. see that plate in the middle of the picture below? the one labeled caribbean plate? it collides with the north american plate and causes earthquakes among its many effects, one of the other effects happens to be the islands themselves...
