Maybe he is trying to use his bully-pulpit to break suppression and finally get these devices out there? We don't live in a vacuum here, you know... It is quite possible that him and many other influential people want safe and pollution-free energy technologies released, too. Gates doesn't strike me as a knee jerk denier; lol. I'm sure he knows the skinny about these hidden and suppressed technologies.

It is another sign that goes towards the growing idea that many of us are coming to now, regarding the slow moving of the status quo towards major disclosure of F-E technologies within the next few years... Maybe even sooner   One way or another.. These things cannot remain hidden forever, the internet and International efforts have seen to that. What happened with cold fusion last month (a shocking reversal of 20 years of lies and denial in the US mainstream scientific community), may just be the begining... And was forced by other country's efforts in LENR that made the continued suppressions look idiotic and highly suspicious.

It all comes down to that old "Comfort Factor" again: When disclosure becomes more "comfortable" to those in power than suppression, then there is disclosure.

But that doesn't mean we should just wait meekly for it to come.. There is still tremendous opposition: Every month there are hundreds of Billions in easy profits made from the use of coal and oil as fuels; and every month the ecology suffers more because of it. The more we do here; the faster the disclosures, open university studies, and free-enterprise marketing of these techs will come  

If Gates is pushing this; then there is a better chance we will see some mass production and open marketing of this particular device / technology. Given a choice between him or G.E. or Exxon Mobile or G.M. who very likely hold similar Patents and just sit on them: Which would you choose to move forward with it? At least he appears to not be afraid of talking about it openly as some others are (... Pickens).

All it takes is ONE F-E DEVICE to be openly marketed: And the whole house of cards falls. 

So we've got nothing to lose with this news, and possibly something very good to gain.

At the very least, we can now say that the greatest technology entrepreneur in history has declared with his actions that he is in the F-E corner

I am the eternal optimist...but past behavior is usually a good indicator of future behavior.

Unfortunately he has shown that he is only interested in his own gain, as per his monopolizing past.

Ergo these patent apps.

I'm afraid we will still end up paying through the nose for energy...and still be under someone's foot.

Bill Gates is famous for some other things besides the worlds most popular operating system.

Found guilty (M$) of monopolization practices in the EU to stifle competition.

Bundling software for with the operating system to undermine the profit potential of another company which brought about the use of the term "netscaped" to exemplify the practice.

These past indicators of business practices do not lead me to believe that BG or M$ is going to do things that are beneficial to anyone but BG and M$ in regards to undiscovered energy sources or methods.
