First, thank you for your efforts.  I think it was Helmut that suggested contacting one of his neighbors.  I don't know if this work in Australia or not but you could check on infospace.com and look for neighbors to Hans's address.  It should list their numbers.  One of them should know if he is on holiday or if an ambulance were there recently.  This is just a suggestion and as I said, I , and many others, appreciate your efforts.  Thank you.

To all,

Made a phone call to a hospital in the surrounding area, and asked for info on how I could find a certain individual on a national register of hospitals in the Sydney area. The answer was that I needed to call each one of Sydney's hospitals individually. The second call was a dead end as they placed me with an answering machine asking me to leave my number so as to call me back....aaaaaaFORGET IT !

I've now called his local police station asking if they could stop by his house and check with his neighbors. They'll call me back on my mobile hopfully soon.   

BTW not familiar with infospace here regarding this search.
