Tito, do you understand the difference between a "kilometer" and a "kilometer per hour" ?  The first is a quantity, the second is a RATE.

POWER is the RATE at which units of "energy" pass your measurement point. What are the units of energy? Joules. What are the units of power? Watts. One Watt is one Joule per second. Power is the RATE at which units of energy pass your measurement point.

Voltage is "charge pressure". It arises from the mutual repulsion of like electrical charges, generally the negative unit charge possessed by the electron. It is not an "open highway" in any sense of the term. It's more like a crowded cell in a gaol: the more people you stuff in there the harder they want to escape and the more ENERGETICALLY they will run away.... and the more energy it will take for you to stuff another one or ten criminals (electrons) into your room (capacitor bank). If anything is an "open highway", it must be a conductive pathway for the criminals to travel down to a place that is less crowded (at lower potential, ie voltage). From this you should be able to see that VOLTAGE is RELATIVE. You can have extremely high voltages with respect to ground, but you can safely touch these voltages if you are at the same potential level yourself without a path to a lower potential. From a cosmic viewpoint the Earth could be highly charged, positive or negative, and we would never know it because we share the same potential as the planet.

Gasoline, etc. and the explosions from it do not "create energy". Chemical energy is stored in molecular bonds and certain chemical reactions liberate this energy as heat. Lots of heat released in a short amount of time causes rapid expansion of gases, breaks things and makes big noise. This is NOT CREATION OF ENERGY.

Your shouted pronouncements are all generally similarly wrong, and shouting them louder doesn't make them right. You may have an audience, but I think that most of them are just there for the lulz, as you can be very humorous with your sillynesses. You do dispense the occasional nugget of truth that you have cribbed from people like Tesla, but it's nothing that isn't already known. For example, you are currently converging on the Slayer Exciter type of solid-state Tesla coil.

Farmhand is absolutely correct. Power is not energy, Power is a measure of energy over time.

I now better understand the reason why you seem so confused. Tesla is being taken out of context (probably turning in his grave)

I'll see if I can help you understand the relationship between energy and power

Power is measured in amongst other things as Watts
Energy is measured in amongst other things as joules
Time is measured for our purpose in seconds

1 Watt (power) = 1 joule (energy) for 1 second (time).

Therefore 2 watts is equal to 2 joules for 1 second.
But 2 watts is also equal to 1 joule for 2 seconds.

Think about that for a moment....

We often talk about power in watt hours or kilowatt hours, referring to my previous post I stated that a house can use 18Kwh of energy in a day.

That means 18,000 watts continuously for 1 hour. I know that seems confusing but what we do when making these measurements is compress it all down into an hour purely for convenience sake.

In reality what it means is the house will consume on average 750 watts every hour for 24 hours, now because watts is a measure of energy over time we can also say, every hour we use 750 * 3600s of energy or 2.7Mjoules of energy.

That's why I was able to say an average house (18kwh) will consume 64.8Mjoules of energy in one day, 2.7Mj * 24 = 64.8Mj

Ok I hope you can follow that because now we get interesting and we also get to the source of your confusion.


If we go back to 1w = 1j for 1s how many watts of power do we consume if we halve the amount of time?

the formula is p=e/t so p(in watts) =  e(in joules) divided by t (in seconds)

If we do the math p=1/0.5 = 2

So 1 joule for half a second is 2 watts! I know that is counterintuitive but it is correct.

What happens if we take the time down to an extreme like a microsecond (one millionth of a second).

The formula is the same p=1/0.000001 this works out to a massive 1 Million watts (1,000,000w).

Now lets back our way out again, using p=e/t we transpose(rearrange) to find e. e=p*t

We do the math e=1,000,000*0.000001 = 1j

So now we have discovered that Power is a measurement of energy with respect to time. Even though the amount of energy does not change, by reducing the amount of time you expend it in, the power can rise enormously.


What has that to do with capacitors and Tesla?

Capacitors as I am sure you are aware are a way of storing energy. but they don't store very much. That's why we don't use capacitors in place of batteries. The amount of energy they store is very very low. Even really big ones.

So what was Tesla talking about? Well Capacitors have one very very important feature, they can unload that energy very very fast. So fast that we can take our one joule of energy and unload it in one microsecond, delivering a massively powerful 1 Million watts of energy!

But its over before you know it.
