The big difference between the 2 reports in this video is the input Watts.
Was 172.3 and now 1059.
All the other numbers are reasonably close to each other.

JLN is still measuring the input after the variac.
From his new video summary "To measure the electrical INPUT POWER, I have used the high end energy meter Voltcraft Energy Logger 4000F connected at the output of the variac."

I'd like to see the number of watt measured before the variac.

The one I used differed to yours though, but now you have said this I can go out, buy another rather than trying to figure out how to build one.

I did try yesterday to get it to work with a big 50hz Neon Sign Transformer (NST) but while it seemed to work it also changed the tone of the spark gap when the connection was made, I realized that I was creating a capacitor between the 2 coils and that was changing operation and the true reason for the light glowing brighter, when I switched the connecting wire to the other side of the SG to remove the capacitance effect it didn't glow brighter when connecting it to the the bulb.

I am now really glad that with the plasma globe power supply it worked when connected to the coil side of the spark gap because if it was only the other side (which I guess due to the mass of my secondary coil swamped it killing the gap) then it could simply be the change in capacity, but that is not it!

So, off to get another Plasma Globe, good thing as I hate building stuff with IC's and transistors etc...

BTW, I think JLN is lying about his power, I think he was scared off.

It is good that those USB plasma globes are very inexpensive and safe also
because of the low wattage. The next thing to check is to make the coils
resonant by adding parallel high volt capacitors to the coils. The spark
gap should also be adjustable. If the coils is resonant tuned to the spark
gap frequency then we should see a drop in input power usage.
