I view it like this, if you can tap into the earths magnetic fly wheel which can be done, the same apply to the spinning magnets that you have discovered or by using the magnet solely so it acts exactly like the earth magnetic fly wheel and that is how your magnets are behaving.

View the earth as a simple magnet, where is its invisible flywheel - where it the rotation power of it this is also key as to how to get a permanent magnet motor to work, with the compass effect it is tapping into the magnets moving flywheel either the earth or any magnet you can buy.
