Hi All,
I wanted to upgrade the forum software to the latest TinyPortal 1.05 Beta  Version,
but that did not work out, as it still has too many bugs and there were
errors inside the block codes.

As this also changed the MySQL database, I had the problem, that the changed
Database was not compatible anymore with the now used TinyPortal 0.983 version.

Luckily I had a backup of the database still in old format.
But as the database was 205 Mbytes big it took
ages to reimport into a new MySQL database server.

I am also thinking about moving the OverUnity.com site to the
new SMF 2.04 Beta software with a different portal PortaMX.com
but I still have to test it all, how stable it all is.
Also this could run on SQlite and does not need MySQL servers...

But I have first to test this all on a non-live forum version, to
be sure it all works out.

So now I know, that MurphyÃ,´s law has again truth...
Never change a running system..

Regards, Stefan.

Are you still with servage?

I'm also happy the forum got back up. Got kind of bored for a while there  :P.

i recommend not to use any type of beta upgrades even if it seems like everything works. just wait for stable version, then upgrade :)

Very true.
Yes,I am still on servage.

Have not decided yet, where else to go for hosting.

As the hosting runs okay in this moment on Servage,
there is no fast need to change.
Also I am looking into SQLite database solutions, so we will
not be limited to the MySQL database access.

I am not sure, if the current SMF 1.1.6 version runs on a SQLite
setup, but the new SMF2.04B runs on SQLite, I just tested it last night.

But I would have to change many things in the template, cause the Azure template
is not yet available for SMF 2.x and I would like to keep this.

Also the PortaMX.com portal is also still Beta and it does not have a download
section like Tinyportal has, so I would have to move the files
from the Tinyportal Download area to somewhere else and
this has to be linked then again to some forum pages, so it is a lot of work
to do this all... So I decided to keep the current software and
better work on the upcoming Video Portal and article website.

ever thought about owning your own server?
i think in the long run you will be saving a lot of money and you would be in total control.
use ubuntu as the server, then install apache :) then use www.opendns.com or some kind of www.no-ip.com service.

you would have to leave your server computer on 24/7 but still i think in the long run you would save a lot more money. no?
