It is a closed circuit.  The energy goes from the ground, thru SG, thru 1/2 coil, to the antenna in the air and the air is touching the ground 
The batt/inverter/other 1/2 of coil is just the exciter to get the energy flowing from the ground.
It's a theory....

It is a closed circuit through the ambient medium. Hence that circuit can collect energy from that ambient medium (the thin air).

The electrons from ground are the energy which passes the spark gap to the energy sink and in so doing it gets converted into light and heat.

As soon as the spark fires a potential equalization happens. That means Tesla's enclosure is full and can't take any more electrons (energy) from ground at the moment till the next cycle occurs when the energy of the spark is dissipated.

The question now is, how to make Tesla's enclosure a lot bigger so it can handle more incoming electrons? How to maintain the little energy?

Please read that patent to answer the question you are looking for. Step Down Transformer purpose is to bring the Electricity  with High Potential(voltage) but Lesser Quantity(Amperage) into a Lesser Potential but Higher Quantity(Amperage).

   Can you explain how you think that through a spark gap discharge that is going from a higher voltage source to the ground (lower voltage potential) be "drawing electrons" from the lower potential ground source?
Nor do I recall Tesla ever mentioning "drawing electrons",  from anywhere. Does lightning draw electrons from the ground? 
That all sounds a bit backwards to me.  As lightning for example is explosive, not implosive. Or maybe it's not electrons involved in this case, but some other possibly as yet unmeasurable source of energy, such as gravitational energy, or whatever may come with it.
   The main thing is to have the circuit self run, regardless of where the extra energy may be coming from. Then we can discuss the how and why this can happen.
   
   It looks to me as some of us are really getting close to having a true self runner.  But,  close,  only really counts in horseshoe games.
 
   I must comment, that on my latest tests on my Mazilli/yoke device, I had a 110v 7 watt incandescent bulb light extremely bright, (higher than from a grid source), then suddenly burn out.  Although I was surprised by this, as it has not happened before, nor are there any pre-charged caps involved in my circuit.  It gives me some hope that with the proper device tuning a much higher resonant factor can be obtained. Which will make the difference that we are all looking for, and also make up for any losses in the system, as well.
