Type of valve/tube.
Can those who are experts in this matter sort out what type of valve/tube we are dealing with and suggest a western alternative please? :)

It's a BEAM TETRODE... a pair of adiditional electrodes which are connected to the cathode form a concentrated electron beam angled to overcome the effects of secondary emission. The TETRODE has  four electrodes, a cathode two grids and an anode. A PENTODE has five electrodes, a cathode, a control grid, a screen grid, a supressor grid to overcome secondary emission and finally an anode.  Most likely several of the early TV valves would work... some of these are pentodes. The screen grid is taken to the high voltage rail through a high wattage resistor.

In regards of vacuum lamp there is no difference what type it is. Only two switching electrodes are needed - think in signal managed Juliet thief way. All job is done by quarter wave resonator on Tesla coil secondary with capacitive loop between windings what got wire length ratio 1:4
Everything else is same as in Tesla coil you seen many times already.

Hopefully that dispells some magic :)
