@Gauschor: The difference between a magnetically quenched gap and a plain non-quenched gap is about the same as when quenching with compressed air or rapid rotation. It allows you to pass more current through the gap and still get good cut-off, instead of power arcing through conductive plasma that persists in the gap after the firing proper. Yes, I've read this post, and heard of the avalanche effect before, but wasn't sure how in detail this could apply. If I understand right, then we first need particles with *enough* energy, so they can release new electrons while passing through another material.

But how large must be the energy of the particles so the effect can happen? And where exactly must be put the magnet poles, so you gain the large power? The previously posted picture shows 2 magnets 90° from a spark gap, while in the Testatika the poles are aligned on both ends of the metal/plexiglass sheets.

Besides: shouldn't it all take place in a closed tube ? The setup on the Testatika video is open... no quenched gap or something like it... (ok, maybe they removed the tube/cover to confuse people).
