I don't think so ! You have a right to choose.
I have mixed feelings because many things have been predicted in the Past that  never came  to pass.
However there are some Psychics like Edgar Casey just to name one, that were right on the Button.
The way things are progressing we all hope that something good happens.
It is just our human nature ,myself included. Let us keep our hope!  You and I can not solve all the current problems.

I've been reading through similar "end of our civilisation/ alien attack scenario's & dates" for a long time, too.

Where are they? Why are these Aliens pictured so unfriendly(sometimes)? If they're evolved and advanced enough, why would they harm us?

Well, I must say that, even as I sounded like a skeptic, I am not at all one of those "ET does not exist and everyone that thinks so is a woo woo" guys. As a matter of fact, I know ET intelligent life exists, that they are even living among us, and have bases all over the planet. Also they have been here long before than us, and in many senses, we are also ET as of not original in this planet.

What I don't buy is all the "channeling" stuff. I was, well a while ago, and avid reader of whatever channeled material became available. It was a complete waste of time, and none of the promissed mass sightings ever took place. Later I learnt that channelings are a real phenomenon, in the sense that is a real contact with a non human conciousness, the problem is that those beings that are channeled, are not precisely playing the game in our favor.

I have just recently (within 48 hours) learned of this october 14th thing. Is it just me, or doesn't this remind anyone of the movie "Independence Day" where all the people were up on top of the building with their welcome signs just before the ship destroyed it? I am not a negative creature by nature but neither am I a believer in religious beings (father figures) who look down on us from the heavens (ala George Carlin). I do however hold no ill will or lack of respect for those who believe differently than I. I have always held to the belief that anything we learn or experience can have a positive on our future achievements, therefore I look forward to any result (positive or otherwise) that comes from this speculated event. Meanwhile I will continue to work towards our energy solutions with an open mind and a hopeful heart.
