Not everyone can be another Bill Gates. Not everyone is the next Clarence Darrow. Not everyone is the next Albert Einstein. We are a collection of all kinds of people. Some of us are machinists. Some of us are IT people. Some of us are teachers. Some of us are mechanics. Some of us are people who can assemble things. Some of us are people who love to sew things. Like one of the prior people pointed out.....what can we pick up in the stores anymore than state "Made in the USA." Very little. That is why we are in such trouble. The bulk of our manufacturing jobs are located in other countries. Mostly in SE Asia. Wake up America. 42,000 plus factories have closed in this country over the past 10 years or so. Do you realize how many jobs were lost? Do you realize that most of those jobs are now being held by people who are not Americans in foreign lands, but the companies are still American companies? Do you think that American shareholders of these companies are reaping the bulk of the profits from the "change of venue" of these jobs. Jobs which now cost American companies $1 an hour instead of $20 an hour. The CEO's, Presidents and VP's of these companies are now part of the "super rich" in this country. It is time for American to wake up. A good share of our debt problems in Washington are due to the fact that the income tax base is trillions of $$ short because of all the lost manufacturing jobs to other countries. NAFTA does not work for most Americans. I believe I read that about 5% of Americans now own or control about 90% of American wealth and real assets. That was not the case 25 years ago or even 10 to 15 years ago. Until we require American companies to pay Americans to work in American factories, we will continue to see our standard of living diminish for all but the top 5 to 10% of Americans.

WilbyInebriated, you almighty Genius, you:
You asked me when the collapse of the economy was going to occur, as you said I predicted in the beginning of this thread...?
Okay, Great One,
I'm hearing a persistent rumor that Sept to Nov. of this year---especially later, rather than soone---is when the economy will take a real hard kick in the balls, so to speak.   I might add, "Dr." No(wak), the dastardly neo-Nazi, predicted something similar.   And, his time frame was the same with respect to the worth of the dollar.   "2-3 cents" is what he said.
You wanted an answer, there it is.   No go play with yourself, long and hard; that's all you get.   :-*    >:(    ;D    :-*

it is now december 2012.  so much for the reliability of your "persistent rumors"...  and your "sources"... ::)

move the disaster "deadline" once again...   imagine that!

hey chicken little... THE SKY IS FALLING!
There is no news. There's the truth of the signal. What I see. And, there's the puppet theater...

I suggest you read some free market economic theory.  Protectionism does not work in the long run.  We just need to focus on our comparative advantages and exploit those, finding new comparative advantages as necessary.  Focusing purely on jobs is not helpful.  Focus on total production.  If you focus only on jobs and make decisions based on that, the USA would never have implemented the massive labor saving farm technology at the turn of the century, because, hey "tractors cost jobs!".

Also, your comparative salary numbers are off.  When all factors are taken into account, it is not a 20 to 1 savings on labor.  And worker salaries in China and India have been rising steadily.

Lastly, and this is to cast some hope on the future of manufacturing in the USA.  As soon as automated manufacturing starts being more efficient that labor based manufacturing, this business will shift back to the USA.  Current 3D printing technology is a glimpse of what is to come.

I alluded that to the "Bad" Dr. (No)wak.   They're in the same organization, I would expect.

@eatenbyargue
I told the "Bad" Dr. that the name Nowak meant in English, 'New Man', and that was in Polish.   In Czech, it's spelled 'Novak', and I imagine it means the same thing.   I likened it to Jews arriving in Poland during the Diaspora and a few were considered a 'New Man' in town.  Also, Paul Newman's father was a Hungarian/Polish Jew whose father's surname as Newman.
When I told this to No(wak), he dismissed it as not being relevant for more than 200 years in the Old Country.   Bullsh!t!!!!   My English Jewish ancestors gave me Torsion Dystonia...

http://www.jewishgenetics.org/?q=content/torsion-dystonia

...even after not being Jewish for 700 yrs after Edward I kicked Jews out of England.   Cromwell allowed them back in 1656.

I suspect these neo-Nazis would use the 'drop-of-blood' argument as a means of discrimination against me, although their ancestors like No(wak)'s may also have had Jewish ancestors.   I suggested that he be genetic tested for "Jewishness"---if possible, I believe---but he also dismissed the notion.

Double standard!   Liar!!!

I'm merely a theoretical electronics engineer/technician for now, since I have no extra money for experimentation, but I was a professional electronics/computer technician in the past.
As a result, I have a lot of ideas, but no hard test results to back them up---for now.  That could change if I get a job locally in the Bay Area of California.

Lee, Im glad the skin cancer is gone.Hitler was a jew after all.He hated his origins. And tried to pretend that he was not of jewish descent. His relatives tried to disclose that fact but history pretty much drowned that fact out.For now the USA is still leading the way in manufacturing in the world,China is number 3.
True, the manufacturing jobs may return but only after the wages over there reach 21 dollars an hour.So maybe in another 30 years? When Americans are willing to work for 22 cents a hour.True, robots have cost workers their jobs here. But did allow factories to produce more at lower costs.
I worked in factories over half of my adult life. And the robots I saw increased our production.
Oh yeah ,here is talk of war options being considered against Syria.
