Hi Grum,

Listen, i play with toroids and windings more than any could imagine.  I have seen and produced things that I could not always expect.  But the point I was trying to make is never measure open circuited voltage.  It so varieswith capacitance. 

Also you gave no input nor output current.   Always use a resistor or load for proper measuring.  Open circuited voltage is too affected by capacitance.

that is my suggestion.

Redo your test with input voltage and current and place a 10 ohm resistor across the load.  That was my point.

Capacitance fools.

Many thanks for your reply.

I am very well aware that open circuit tests can be fooled but in this case the output WAS loaded with a 20 W 12 V Halogen bulb and the output voltage was still greater than the input !!

That aside your comments have been noted and understood. I was also pleased that you presented yourself in a Gentlemanly fashion, not ridiculing us "Greenhorns", as I feel that constructive criticism can lead to a greater understanding of an area for which I personally don't have a great deal of knowledge in !!

Above all, the fact that the out V is greater than the in V is the interesting part. it does seem to be a 1to1 ratio. And it is simple AC in AC out.  Now if it were pulsed or square in, then I wouldnt be so surprised. Makes me wana do 3 cores with 4 coils. lol  Hey, who woulda thunk that the voltage would have been greater with what Grum shows in winding ratios? I would expect V in to be V out if I had just seen the setup before seeing measurements. So what might more cores and coils do? Would anyone expect a 1to1 ratio with 3 cores and 4 coils? Would anyone expect no more V out than Grum has shown with just 2 cores and 3 coils? Any explanations of why out V is greater than in V??

I did this last year. 8 V p/p Sinus in 160 V p/p out (at resonance) Note 90 deg phase shift !!  NO load dear Bruce !! 

However T-1000 told me I had not got the winding quite correct.    Smacks of Don Smith ?? 

Needs further investigation ??
