Hi Gadgetmall,

My construction is now well advanced.  One quick query if I may, what is the function of the capacitor straddling the feedback pot?  Is it to modify the oscillation frequency or does it have a different purpose?

Yes you are correct . It makes the circuit closer to resonance no matter where you adjust the pot. It Helps to reduce Current Consumption while maintaining resonance .

Thanks for the thread guys.

The circuit board was exactly the same as the one i have.

The only problem - the light from a 13w is not that bright. (about 1/4 the total brightness)
I will look for a smaller watt bulb to see if I can get a brighter light.

I thought I saw a schematic to double the output voltage on this thread... i will have to look....
(I hope a 2N2222a or IRF510 mosfet transistor will work on it)

If any of you know how to boost the brightness of the CFL, please let me know

Sir:

Ditch the cfl and use a Lights of America LED edison base bulb.  You don't even have to gut it or anything...use as is and it will put out way more light than the cfl and will not break and dump mercury all over the place.  Available at Walmart and if that does not work for where you are, they can be ordered off of the net.  I think I paid like $8 US for a 2-pack.
