  The copper tube inside of the toroid cores is acting as a transformer.  If you wind a secondary on top of the toroid cores you would increase the output even more.
He has other videos showing other "amazing" circuits, although I couldn't find the one that I was looking for from his list of videos, now, showing him lighting about 300 leds, from his circuit. This is all in response to Igors TROS videos.
   But, it would be "amazing" if he were to light a 150 watt bulb with his AA battery oscillator.  As SR has has done using 12v just for a few seconds, just to charge the start capacitor that once charged will light the 150w bulb, and then the device will self run, using NO battery, or capacitor.  That,  IS amazing...

The shortcut way to to find out the best resonance of Copper tube/pipe with toroid with 1 straight copper wire running in the center to multimeter volt setting.This experiment was done around 1 year ago.
Using power transistor for my case i just use Japanese transistor collector to one end of copper tubes and the other end to positive.I merely used 1AA battery to protect transistor.
At the base of transistor the resistor 1k or less  depending on type of transistor used eg:2N3055 to frequency generator and tune until you get maximum reading from 1 copper wire in the center.
From there hopefully this ideal frequency can be supported by the hv transformer as well.

I have just received my Nanocrystalline toroids(17 pieces) from www.cwsbytemark.com selling for $5+ today and i compared against my best Green toroid(Iron powder best grade on the cheap via ebay China) 7.5cm diameter.I have attached photo.

I intentionally did a 1 wire loop test on both Toroid as seen in photo.
The large green toroid is mere 26uH.
The Nanocrystalline toroid is at amazing 44uh for 1 loop for 4.5cm diameter

Just picture this scenario i had done winding on existing 7.5cm green toroid at 93 turns to get 94mH.
With the above result for nano i would need less turns to achieve the same effect in mH or voltage and less lost through lower copper resistance.

On top of this i have just purchased 4069 I/C to be used as driver and all another related components locally.Tomorrow or day after i will start assembly of the coil after getting pvc pipe to fit toroid.

These are not just a simple transistor for driver it's a darlington transistor with 2 resistors embedded in it.

Regarding your earlier experiment 1:1 i suggest you try more turns for secondary since you will never get to see the surge in voltage if it's too low turns voltage.The surge can't be spotted easily and can't be captured easily from toroids,flux.
I know this will work out earth is of course needed in the end to attract.    
For lower voltage higher current was used  eg:1XAA for higher voltage via spark gap the loading isn't that much on hv transformer and at resonance frequency just imagine.The surge.
Maybe this is a "form of resonance amplifier" .The key to ou.

Lastly i don't understand why do you need to cut copper tubes to give gap it induces leakage won't it? or maybe was it done elsewhere merely to match with hv transformer frequency range.Unconfirmed for now.

Another interesting thing i spotted from all other SR193 replication attempts.Is that they used such a tiny ferrite core for the center leaving a big air gap.
For transformer design standpoint this huge air gap in between is a big no no.If Too tiny ferrite used in center it's unable to support higher current.
