Nick,

From my experimentation, I found that to achieve a Kacher frequency of 2MHz plus, most of my turns had to be removed. I suggest that you retain the coil length that Ruslan shows but wind say 0.7mm ECW with space between strands as strongly suggested by Magpwr. I agree with Magpwr that from the video, it looks very likely that Ruslan spaced his coil turns.

As a point of interest, the TOPruslan circuit attached to Geo's post above shows a Kacher to PWM frequency ratio of 50:1 and according to Geo, this is a worker.

In radio RF if your winding an Aerial coil (and you apear to) you would notice the load tuned coil would be a proportion of the active wave in Meters so you need to spread the coil using a spacing between each turn so your coil was ''IN TUNE with the WAVE LENGTH''. As apposed to any old length. ;))))  (ECW = En Copper Wire

Yes, this is a factor that Nick probably does not appreciate. As he will not be basing his coil design on any math, starting off with a coil around the length of Ruslan's should give him a starting point for experimentation with turns gaping and gap between Kacher and grenade coil.

Here are two videos that Ruslan has posted showing the building and running of the same device that I'm trying to replicate, in my own way, ror any of you that may not have been following along on this thread.

At about minute 20, Ruslan is showing on the diagram that the 168 turns coil (grenade output coil) has a SIGN WAVE signal.
  Not a square wave...

Hi Nick,

Thanks for the links, unfortunately I do not speak Russian (I know a little the cyrillic alphabet) but at about minute 20 (you refer to) what Ruslan shows as sine wave (you write SIGN wave), I think the sine-wave-like drawing represents the electro-magnetic wave propagating towards the z axis (in a x, y and z coordinate system) and the electric and magnetic waves are shown perpendicular to each other as usual in EE physics.
Nevertheless, the waveform can surely be a sine wave from the LC circuit of the Katcher because it is a resonant circuit and the oscillations are maintained by a power supply / battery via the transistor. The frequency of the oscillator is mainly defined by the physical data of the secondary coil i.e. the number of turns and the self capacitance of this coil. The self capacitance can be decreased (hence oscillating frequency increases) by insuring space between the turns, (I agree with Magpwr and Hoppy). It is possible that you have to modify the position  or / and the number of turns of the primary coil (which is in the collector of the transistor) to better match the now changed resonant impedance of the secondary to the transistor output impedance, this may help to regain some HV.

Here is a useful link on solenoid coils half wave conductor-length resonance topic etc it may help better understanding what T-1000 (or Ruslan) refers to (it is a long text but worth reading):

   Hoppy:
Roughly calculating the size of Ruslan's Kacher secondary coil, which is wound on 1 1/8 inch sink drain PVC pipe, I figure that his secondary is about 2.5 inch wide.  Mine after removing some turns is still 3 3/4 inch wide, but wound on 1 1/2 in pvc pipe, instead.
So, I will remove some more coil turns, to try to obtain a closer match to Ruslan's secondary coil.
However, I think that this will result in a much lower output at the antenna coil. We'll see, but even now as it is, I don't see the spark or streamer that Ruslan has shown, when placing his finder to touch the secondary coil. Nor will my Kacher circuit even be  activated into oscillations, without the use of ferrite pieces inside of the pvc pipe.

Hi Nick,

I would more worry about matching the lengths of grenade coil + grounding than matching Ruslan's coil.
The conditions for creating standing wave are not exactly same as your coil is not 100% copy like Ruslan had and also the grounding conditions in your area are obviously different than in Riga or around...

Cheers!
